As the ageing process begins, the connective tissue becoming thin while collagen and elastic fibers break down. These changes in the support structures system will result in sagging, deep creases; folds and wrinkles. Usually this begin to appear in the early forties.
A thread lift is a minimally invasive, safe and effective non-surgical procedure that offers subtle, natural looking results for both men and women. It has been used to achieve a mini face or body lift for many years. Five materials that have been commonly used for the threads include gold, poly-l-lactic acid, caprolactone, poly-propylene and polydioxanone (PDO) to name a few. Throughout their use, threads have achieved a high degree of patient satisfaction.
Due to the unique design of the cogs of threads, the surrounding tissues act to hold the threads in place without the need for visible scars. The threads are inserted in precise locations using a long needle, and once inserted under the skin, they open in an umbrella like fashion to form a support structure that gently lifts and repositions the tissues into a more vertical and youthful position. With the lift effect secured, the needle is removed, the end of the thread is cut and knotted, allowing it to retract deep under the skin where it cannot be felt or seen. The non-absorbable threads stay within the deep tissues and provide support. Once the cog is in position, your body will generate new collagen bundles that surround each thread to maintain the lifting effect.
The thread lift is most commonly performed under local anesthesia and the procedure usually takes under 60 and up to 90 minutes to complete, depending on the number of threads used. Patients are able to go home soon after the procedure.
Risk or side effects of the treatment may include swelling, bruising, infection and thread migration. Post-operative skin folds may also occur. Some post procedure precautions must be followed for about 2-3 weeks. They include avoiding forceful facial rubbing or trauma, sleeping on your back, putting pressure on the face, limiting facial animations and excessive mouth opening.
The effects of thread lift last between 9 to 12 months. To achieve longer lasting result, thread lift can be combined with other face rejuvenation treatments such as botulinum toxins, dermal fillers, lasers and radiofrequency.
